Sam has been managing his own money for many years, and has been a student of wealth management and investment theory for his entire life. Sam developed his algorithmic trading expertise studying applied and computational mathematics at Caltech. Sam and his team manage over $200 million with the algorithms they have developed. Sam’s investment focus is on publicly traded equities, debt, derivatives and currencies. Sam travels extensively as a world-ranked tennis player.

Matt Aven is SBB Research Group’s Director of Operations. He is responsible for day-to-day operations, ensuring the group’s algorithms, positions, and execution are efficiently managed. In addition to majoring in economics at the University of Michigan, Matt also studied computer science extensively, giving him the ideal background to work in the financial industry and lead an engineering team at the same time.Matt previously worked for a global broker-dealer where he developed and supported risk management software for institutional options traders, proprietary databases and quantitative market analysis tools designed to screen the market for inefficiencies.
Fun fact: Matt Aven has been playing competitive hockey for over 37 years.
With academic training in finance, computer engineering, applied economics, and law, Sandeep brings a unique perspective to his role within SBB Research Group. Prior to graduate school, he worked as a consultant for Accenture in Chicago.
Fun fact: Sandeep is scared of snakes, heights, and some people.

With background knowledge in computer science and finance, as well as being a Red Hat Certified System Administrator, Myung is perfectly suited to handle SBB Research Group’s data and infrastructure needs.
Fun fact: Myung almost deadlifted 315 lbs once.

A chemical engineer by training, Andrew is applying his scientific expertise in computational kinetic modeling to the development of new financial models at SBB Research Group. Prior to joining SBB Research Group, he worked in the financial industry specializing in electronic options trading.
Fun fact: Andrew played supporting roles in “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” and “Transformers: Age of Extinction”.

Dan works on researching and onboarding new strategies at SBB Research Group. He brings over 15 years of trading experience, encompassing a range of market environments and products.

Brent joined the engineering team at SBB Research Group in June of 2014. He participated in an assistantship studying wireless networking during his undergraduate career. Brent brings to the SBB team his knowledge in developing and maintaining software infrastructure used in day-to-day operations relating to trading, managerial and client-facing software.
Fun fact: Brent has beaten Sandeep in chess, once.

Paul works on strategy development and testing at SBB Research Group, with a focus on applications of statistical and other modeling. Before joining the SBB team, he taught mathematics at the University of Michigan.

As Information Coordinator for SBB Research Group, Katie is responsible for in-house research. She previously worked in the e-commerce field before joining SBB Research Group.

Mark Shachtman brings 35 years of management experience in the business sector. Mark spent 25 years building a local chain of auto parts stores, before selling to a major national chain. After that, he became CFO of a merchandising and licensing business.

As Operations Associate, Dan is responsible for assisting in SBB Research Group’s business development and process optimization. Prior to joining SBB Research Group, he worked as a consultant in the legal services industry.

Erin provides the team with information support. Prior to joining the financial industry, Erin worked in medical services.

Aynsley, a recent graduate of University of Arizona, provides the team with administrative support. Prior to joining SBBRG, she worked in the education industry.

After studying finance at Indiana University, Jordan spent more than a year in Ghana working in venture capital and entrepreneurial endeavors. At SBB Research Group, he is a part of the operations team which is responsible for ongoing business activities, as well as long term company growth.
Fun Fact: Enjoys playing jazz piano and ping pong.
Kailey joined SBBRG directly after graduating from Illinois State University. During her undergraduate studies, Kailey majored in Marketing and was highly involved with The Starkey Hearing and Make a Wish foundations.
Fun fact: She once stayed awake for 68 hours straight.
Nick joined SBBRG as an Operations Assistant. After graduating with a degree in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse, he worked abroad in Asia and New Zealand in various industries. He is currently pursuing a graduate degree in Accounting from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Fun Fact: Nick lived in Korea for more than 2 years working as an English teacher.

Alan Handler is responsible for Business Development at SBB Research Group. He coordinates the firm’s marketing and sales efforts, communicating information about the firm and its investment strategies to a wide audience of investors and allocators. Prior to joining SBB Research Group, Alan built a business that was focused on helping hedge fund managers raise capital from institutional investors. As he was developing this business, he was also working at several Wall Street and Chicago-area investment banks.

Fun Fact: Alan took second place in a backwards skating race when he was in fourth grade.
Elan provides advice and legal guidance to SBB Research Group’s management team. A graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, Elan has worked in the commercial real estate and finance industry since 2001. An attorney by training, Elan was an associate in the real estate group at Goldberg Kohn and a corporate and finance associate with Latham and Watkins after his graduation from the University of Chicago Law School.
Fun fact: Elan is the SBBRG Bags Tournament Champion 3 times running!
Dan Shachtman is a principal and co-manager of Barnett Capital. Dan manages all of the various business lines of Barnett Capital. In addition, Dan also works closely with management at SBB Research Group, where he is involved with operational support.
Fun fact: Dan won his high school conference wrestling tournament his freshman year.
